This initial blog won't amount to much. I just want to get across one of the main reasons for Literate in a Minute. Sure, I can speed up your work, so you have more time to play. But so can Grammarly. However, the point of good writing is not just avoiding grammar errors. In many cases you want to have an emotional impact on your reader. You want a reader who is interested, enthralled, inspired by your words. Grammarly might help a little toward that end. However, at present, the best writing results from the symbiotic relation between technology and the thoroughly trained writer. I've said similar things elsewhere in my website, but that was written in 2014, before Weebly offered an official blog page. In any case, I doubt I'll run out of things to say, as after working as an assistant professor of English at New Mexico State U in Carlsbad, I worked as a freelance writer. I wrote speeches and things like that, but as the demand for blogs was high I found myself writing many blogs for all sorts of businesses. So stay tuned. I'm sure I'll have some interesting things to say. Backing up a moment, let me say that I practice what I preach: I do believe in play. I used to be an elite runner, a pretty good guitarist, and an Alpine skier. Arthritis has nixed the guitar, unfortunately. Back problems stopped the running. But, who knows, maybe I can at least ski a bunny slope. I've seen a lot of disabled skiers: one leg, no legs, blind. Maybe in a future blog I'll write about it. But I do believe in hard work, and just maybe my hard work can get you out there enjoying things before it's too late. I hope what I said resonates with some of you, and I'd love to hear from you soon. In case you're wondering, I am a semi-retired writing consultant at the moment.
